This year marks the 15th anniversary of the Advanced LLM in Energy Law, a dynamic part-time, fully-accredited Master's programme offered jointly by four prestigious European universities: the University of Aberdeen (United Kingdom), the University of Groningen (the Netherlands), the University of Oslo (Norway) and the University of Copenhagen (Denmark). Thie programme is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive and powerful vision of energy law.
Attracting participants from a wide range of countries, including Brazil, Chile, Ghana, Iceland, Mozambique, Norway, and the United States, the programme's global reach is evident in its diverse student body.
The Advanced LLM in Energy Law is structured into four intensive teaching modules, each focusing on a specific aspect of energy law:
Energy Security, Safety, and Investment Protection – University of Aberdeen (United Kingdom)Liberalising and Regulating the Energy Market – University of Groningen (the Netherlands)Climate Change and the Energy Transition – University of Copenhagen (Denmark)Energy Trade Law and Energy Contracting – University of Oslo (Norway)
Leading experts in energy law provide the teaching sessions, complemented by site visits relevant to the module topics. The unique structure allows participants to maintain full-time employment while building close relationships with peers, lecturers, and practitioners during the concentrated teaching modules. After completing the four teaching modules, participants spend nine months writing and submitting their Master’s thesis.
In addition to academic and practical lectures, the programme offers numerous networking opportunities. Participants spend eight weeks together, forging relationships with professionals from around the world and engaging with coordinating professors from all four universities.
