Last week many researchers from the School of Geosciences attended and presented at the Scottish Alliance for Geoscience, Environment and Society (SAGES) Annual Science Meeting at the University of Glasgow.
Among those presenting was Dr Miracle Israel Nazarious from the Department of Planetary Sciences, who delivered a presentation on “exploring the habitability in aquatic environments in Earth and Space.” While scientists currently study aquatic systems on Earth, the aim is to eventually explore the oceans underneath Europa and Enceladus, two moons of Jupiter and Saturn respectively, and lakes on Titan, Saturn’s largest moon.
Other School of Geosciences researchers presenting at the SAGES Annual Science Meeting were:
- Miss Mhairi Hallford – “Testing the veracity of satellite-derived end of season snowline altitudes as a proxy for the glacier ELA”
- Dr Will Harcourt – “Surge initiation at the terminus of Borebreen (Svalbard): Drivers and impact of calving”
- Dr David Haro Monteagudo – “A detailed abstraction database to plan assessing current and future water resources availability in Scotland”
- Mx Mórrigan Jones – “Comparative Glaciology: Reconstructing Glaciers on Earth and Mars to understand landscape evolution with respect to climate change”
With researchers from universities across the country attending, the two-day event also offered an opportunity for networking and meaningful discussions on the future of science with the wider SAGES community.
