School of Law is first in Scotland with new online SQE1 course

The University of Aberdeen's School of Law has become the first in Scotland to offer an online SQE1 Preparation Course for aspiring solicitors.

The Solicitors Qualifying Examination is a standardised assessment for those aiming to qualify as a solicitor in England and Wales. The course has opened for registration after the School received accreditation from the Solicitors Regulation Authority as a registered provider.

Tailored for LLB graduates, the self-directed programme is designed to prepare students for the SQE1 exam. The package includes integrated e-modules, audiovisual instructions and over 1,000 practice questions and mini-exam simulations, as well as additional materials and guidance from the Law School to maximise students’ learning experience.

While enrolled in the SQE1 Preparation course, students will have both remote or on campus access to the Taylor Law Library and the Sir Duncan Rice Library and the University’s comprehensive legal resources and databases. Access to the University’s career services are also available.

Programme director Professor Susan Stokeld said: “These resources are carefully crafted to guide learners in translating theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios, ensuring they are well-prepared for the SQE1.”

“As a Law School we are committed to providing a quality education to all our students. In becoming the first Scottish Law School to be able to deliver this course online, we are going one step further and providing learners with complete flexibility to manage their work and life commitments,” added Head of School Professor Greg Gordon.
