Law Lecturers Participated in a Global Conference on Private International Law

School of Law Lecturers Dr Nevena Jevremovic, Dr Francesca Farrington, and Dr Michiel Poesen attended the biannual Conference of the Journal for Private International Law, which was held From 3rd to 5th August at the Singapore Management University. The Conference is the leading academic forum for private international law scholarship. This year’s edition was attended by renowned experts from all continents, attracting an audience ranging from academics to practitioners and supreme courts judges.

Dr Jevremovic and Dr Farrington gave a paper that entertained the role Private International Law could play in sustainable consumption and production, exploring the impact of transnational litigation on UN Sustainable Development Goal 12 (sustainable development). Dr Poesen’s paper critically examined the rigidity of rules of international jurisdiction in the European Union, conceptualising the degree of flexibility introduced by the Court of Justice of the European Union.

Dr Jevremovic, Dr Farrington, and Dr Poesen benefitted from enriching discussions with the private international law community.

We are grateful the School of Law supported us to participate in this global conference. Presenting our papers gave us the chance to exchange ideas with fellow experts, rekindle old connections and build new ones. We were also excited to experience Singapore, which provided a fitting setting for this global conference as a centre for world trade and melting pot of cultures.
