What could be more fun and more educational for the kids than a trip to the zoo? Well, how about a day out at the Zoology and the Plant & Soil Science Departments of Aberdeen University?
Have your photo taken with a wild animal. Discover the horrors of being fat. See local marine life close up in the Zoology aquarium. Have a thermal imaging picture taken of yourself. There will be lots to see and lots to do when the doors of the Zoology Building, Tillydrone Avenue, Aberdeen open to the public from 10.30am until 5pm on Saturday 16 May.
Visitors of all ages will be able to see for themselves some of the fascinating work of the University of Aberdeen’s Departments of Zoology and Plant & Soil Science. There will a variety of displays, exhibitions, presentations and competitions aimed not only at school children but also their parents.
The Open Day includes the following attractions:
* Test your garden soil
a ‘hands-on’ opportunity for testing of the main chemical features of your garden soil plus tips on how to improve your soil where necessary
* Carnivorous Plants
a video based as well as ‘real-life’ display of the fascinating world of meat eating plants
* Where does our food come from?
a chance to match everyday food from the supermarket with the plants that produce it
* Ecoquiz
fact finding poster about forests and the environment with a fun word puzzle and lollipop prizes
* What a load of rubbish
a chance to find out how much of your domestic rubbish can be recycled. includes a composting demonstration and organic produce
* It glows in the dark
some bacteria emit light naturally. This demonstration will provide a chance to play with bioluminescent bacteria and test pollution at the same time.
* Giant jigsaws
