New President elected for University of Aberdeen Students’ Representative Council
David Welsh, a 4th Year Sociology student, has been elected President of the Aberdeen University Students’ Representative Council for 1998-99. He was elected unopposed with 1,216 votes on a low turnout of 11.86%. He takes over from retiring President Clare McBride.
David Welsh says:
“The SRC has tremendous potential. I will campaign on issues relevant to students such as provision of childcare services, better computing facilities, more quality accommodation and importantly I will fight to protect students affected by the implementation of tuition fees in September.”
The election of Senior vice-president was a close run two horse race won by Stephen Clarke, a first year English and History of Art student, with 620 votes against Stuart Milne, a 2nd Year Computer Science student, with 596 votes.
