The University of Aberdeen has appointed a new Consultancy Manager to market the University’s academic expertise and expand its business client base.
Liz Bowie, a former account manager with Scottish and Southern Energy for six years, will be based in AURIS (Aberdeen University Research and Industrial Services), the University’s commercial arm.
Born in Aberdeen and a former pupil of Aberdeen Grammar School, Liz graduated from the Robert Gordon University in 1990 with a degree in Business Studies. From there, she joined Grampian Country Food Group where she worked in sales and marketing for two years.
In 1992, she moved to Scottish and Southern Energy (Scottish Hydro Electric), as an Account Manager responsible for negotiating large value contracts and identifying added value opportunities such as energy efficiency, combining heat and power and energy management issues.
“Up to now, our existing consultancy business has been done in an informal way, with industry contacting individual academics directly,” she said.
“I will act as a professional link between industry and academe, ensuring as seamless an interface as possible and that we match individual client needs with our in-house knowledge and resources. One of the major advantages that we can offer is that of a cross-faculty, multi-disciplinary approach to help companies solve technological or management challenges.
“In addition, we also have strong links with all the members of the Aberdeen Research Consortium which is an added value of working with the University.”
AURIS Chief Executive, Dr Alistair Alexander, said he was delighted that Liz had joined the University.
“Liz’s wide experience with Scottish Hydro Electric makes her well-placed to help AURIS become the one-stop-shop which industry needs to find their way to the most appropriate University skills. As a result, we hope that long-term collaborative relationships will develop with a range of industry clients.”
