Visitors to Satrosphere will get a chance to explore the mysteries of how the brain functions when they visit Satrosphere between 13-27 September.

Part of the TechFest activities, staff from the University’s Department of Psychology will be on hand to show the how brain works with the help of visual illusions, hands-on expertiments and a variety of “magic tricks”

Professor Sergio Della Sala of the Department of Psychology explains: “There are many myths out there abut how the brain works, how brain power can be channelled and improved. This exhibition is an attempt to disentangle the magic from the mystery. The brain is complex and exciting enough for us to study without adding to the confusion with inaccurate explanations!

“We hope that visitors to Satrosphere will come away from the exhibition having had fun but also understand a little more about wonderful the brain is and how it functions.”

Visitors of all ages will find something to fascinate them, including:

- The Hollow Face Illusion: watch the eyes follow you as you move around the room

- The McGurk Illusion: how does the brain integrate and interpret signals from our different senses?

- Art and the Brain: is beauty truly in the eye of the beholder or is just a sensory analysis?

- The Tower of London Game: does planning ahead really help?

- Inverted Faces: how Madonna and Prince Charles can help explain how the brain interprets what the eye sees
