Increased opportunities for part-time study with the University of Aberdeen will be easier to identify from today with the launch of their new Part-Time Guide 2000.
Director of the Centre for Continuing Education, Dr Melvin Dalgarno explained: “Continuing the drive to widen access to Higher Education and to combat social exclusion, SHEFC (Scottish Higher Education Funding Council) has made funds available to waive the fees of registered job seekers or those in receipt of various categories of benefit to enter courses without charge.
“They have also provided money to allow us to produce our part-time study guide which will be distributed to libraries throughout the North and North East of Scotland, as well as the Highlands and Islands. Copies are also available from the office here at the University (01224 273528).”
Unique to the University are four new courses which can be studied by part-time distance learning, taking advantage of its video-conferencing facilities.:
MA in Scottish Archaeology (the only such course available at a UK university, either part or full-time)
MA in Scottish Culture and Traditions
MA Combined Studies
BTh (Bachelor of Theology)
Dr Dalgarno continued: “Places are available on all our courses at the moment and we are accepting applications until the first week of October.
Many of our part-time courses do not require formal qualification for entry. However, for those which do, we also help students by providing the necessary access courses to give them the qualifications they may need.”
