Clarissa Dickson Wright, Rector of the University of Aberdeen and one of TV’s top chefs, will be the guest speaker at the annual University of Aberdeen Ladies Luncehon at the Marcliffe at Pitfodels on Thursday 16 September.
Launched in 1995 to celebrate the University’s Quincentenary, the Luncheon has proved to be a very popular event, attracting well over 300 people on each occasion. Previous guest speakers have included Lady Clare Macdonald, Sir Iain Cuthbertson and Liz Lochhead.
Chairwoman of the organising committee, Mrs Fiona Begg said: “We are delighted that Miss Dickson Wright has accepted our invitation.
“It is particularly appropriate that she is our guest speaker this year as we launch our University of Aberdeen Ladies Luncheon Fund, aimed at providing immediate support to students who meet unexpected or exceptional financial difficulties. In her role as Rector, she will be very familiar with the financial challenges which face many students today.”
Miss Dickson Wright commented: “It is always a delight to come to Aberdeen. The Marcliffe at Pitfodels is one of may favourite hotels so it will be a double pleasure.
“Students are faced with so many pressures these days, money being only one of them.. It is tremendous that the Ladies Luncheon committee has decided formally to launch this Fund which will be easy to access and will be of great benefit to our students.”
