The Elphinstone Institute is pleased to announce that the well-respected fiddler and prolific composer Bert Murray, MBE, of Aberdeen, who is 87 years young this year, has agreed to be the guest of honour at a day of fiddle workshops based around the north-east tradition. He will also play at the licensed evening ceilidh showcasing some of the north-east’s finest fiddlers, which is open to everyone on Saturday, February 5th, from 7:15 pm until 11:00 pm at the University of Aberdeen’s Central Refectory where workshop participants will show off their skills. Tickets for the ceilidh are available at the door and cost £2.50.
There are still a few places available for the day‘s fiddle workshops, led by prize-winning area performers and teachers, which start at 10:00 am at Marischal College and end at 5:15 pm. Morning sessions will include workshops in group harmony, airs and reels, fiddle pibroch and basic techniques. Afternoon sessions will include workshops in improvising, fiddle sets, simple tunes, and strathspeys & marches.
Day tickets for non-fiddlers are available to those who would like to see and listen to some of the north-east’s finest fiddlers. Day tickets and workshop places may be booked by calling Mary Anne Alburger at 272489 or Sally Atkins at 272996 at the Elphinstone Institute.
