On Sunday, May 7th, St Giles Cathedral will host a choral extravaganza given by the University of Aberdeen Choral Society to celebrate its 125th anniversary. Conducted by Dr Roger B Williams, the choir will also feature in a new work, Pipes of Peace by Edward McGuire, with bagpipe virtuoso Robert Wallace playing different types of Scottish bagpipes.
Featured music will be by Palestrina, Victoria, Viadana, Fauré, Grieg, Mendelssohn, and Rachmaninoff.
The premier of the programme earlier this year in March at Aberdeen Music Hall received favourable reviews by the Press & Journal’s Alan Cooper who “loved the pipes and there were some lovely atmospheric sounds sung by the choir as the work (Pipes of Peace) unfolded.”
The concert will be held at 6:00 pm at St Giles Cathedral and is free to the public.
