Aberdeen tops in admissions once again

The University of Aberdeen remains at the top in the UK, with a 16.9% increase in the number of applications for September 2001 entry. Aberdeen outperforms by far the national average increase of just 1.1%, and the Scottish average increase of just 3%.

This huge increase in applications puts Aberdeen in second place in the whole of the UK behind St Andrews University.

The figures have been issued today by the Universities and Colleges Admissions Services (UCAS).

Lori Manders, Director of Student Recruitment and Admissions Services, said: “We are delighted with this increase and pleased to say that more and more people are making Aberdeen their first choice.”

“The important factor is to turn applications into acceptances, and we are pleased to announce that the number of acceptances has increased by 20% on this time last year.”

Last month, Aberdeen was given another boost by The Times Good University Guide, which ranked Aberdeen third in Scotland and nineteenth in the UK. Aberdeen also rose 17 places UK-wide, the strongest move by any university in the UK.

Aberdeen’s success has also been noted overseas. The number of international applications has risen by 15%, confirming Aberdeen’s place as one of the UK’s top destinations for overseas students.

It is not too late for anyone who is thinking about applying for 2001 admission to the University of Aberdeen. Further information is available from Student Recruitment and Admissions Services on (01224) 272090 or email sras@abdn.ac.uk
