WORD Festival celebrated with photography exhibition
An exhibition by John McKenzie McIntosh celebrating this year's successful WORD Writers' Festival, a five day celebration of the written word, will go on display at The Lemon Tree (Wednesday August 8 - Sunday September 30).
The WORD Writers’ Festival, held from May 16-20, followed on the success of the University’s first festival, held in May 1999, and is Scotland’s largest literary event outside the Edinburgh Book Festival.
Over 3,000 people took part in the festival featuring more than 30 writers and artists from throughout Scotland and Ireland, including William McIlvanney, Alasdair Gray, Bernard MacLaverty, Liz Lochhead and Tom Leonard. The programme had something for everyone, from readings in bookshops and libraries, film screenings and readings at Aberdeen’s new art house cinema, The Belmont, and children’s theatre.
There are few major royal or political figures who have not found their way into John’s lens over the past 20 years.
The WORD Festival was supported by the Scottish Arts Council National Lottery, Aberdeen City Council, First Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire Council, the Belmont and the Lemon Tree, as well as local Aberdeen bookshops.
This photography exhibition is hosted by The Lemon Tree as part of a year-long series of exhibitions sponsored by Aberdeen solicitors Peterkins (Commercial Unit).
Photo opportunity: Journalists and photographers are invited to attend a photograph opportunity at 11.00 am, on Tuesday August 7, at the Lemon Tree. John McKenzie McIntosh will be at the Lemon Tree hanging his exhibition of photographs. There will be also be an opportunity to interview John McKenzie McIntosh.
