Students who have been taking part in part time study at the University of Aberdeen will receive their certificates today (Thursday 22 August) at an evening ceremony that is due to be attended by over 200 people starting at 7:30 pm. It will be followed by a ceilidh to celebrate, and will all take place in the Balcony Lounge of the Student Refectory off St Machar Drive.
Most of the students have been working for at least four years to gain their certificates and diplomas in Scottish Archaeology, Management and Entrepreneurship, North East Studies, Counselling, Christian Studies, Scottish Studies, European Studies, Science and Mentoring.
Dr Debbi Simonton, Key Learning Co-ordinator, said: "The perseverance of these students must be applauded. Most have been studying part-time now for four years or more, taking one or two courses at a time. The part-time route is especially useful for those who want to study and work at the same time. Some do it for pleasure, some will go on to get a full certificate or diploma, and some will go on to full time study. Regardless, today is the culmination of many years of hard work."
