Aberdeen students seek employment through University job fair

Joblink – the Student Employment Service for students at the University of Aberdeen – will host its seventh Recruitment Fair on Wednesday, September 29, at the Student’s Union, Gallowgate, from 2.00pm.

Joblink staff are anticipating a dramatic increase in the demand for their services and at this time of year students in particular are looking to secure employment for the forthcoming term.

First held in December 1998, the recruitment fairs have become well established in Aberdeen and are now organised bi-annually to assist those students seeking part-time and/or vacation employment.

Joblink Manager, Steve Rance, said: “Due to continuing financial hardships on students this event will save a vast amount of time and money in their search for employment, cutting telephone calls, postage, travel costs and time spent searching for vacancies. Other benefits that students can receive from the Joblink service include guidance on balancing work with study, writing CVs and interview skills.

“In turn, employers will save valuable time and costs spent in their recruitment activities meeting potential employees straight away. Employers will also benefit from the calibre of applicants they will be meeting, which has been indicated by numerous employers who have attended previous fairs.”

Students provide a valuable pool of flexible labour that can bring enthusiasm and new ideas to their organisation. In addition, students are intelligent, quick to learn and therefore provide good value for money.

There are a variety of employers and organisations who will be represented at the event, including Thistle Hotels, BUNAC, Driver Hire, Hilton Treetops, ASA International and Aberdeen University Union.

“We are always on the lookout for more potential employers and the event is expected to be just as great a success as previous fairs. It is hoped that a considerable number of placements will be made during the afternoon,” added Mr Rance.
