Aberdeen University Students’ Union wins top award
Aberdeen University Students’ Association (AUSA) Union has been formally recognised as being ‘The Best Students’ Union in the UK,’ by Club Mirror Magazine, part of the Quantum Business Media Group, whose publications include the Publican trade magazine. This monumental achievement comes on the back of being awarded the Carling Club Mirror trophy for being ‘The Best Club in Scotland.’
The national awards ceremony finals were held at the National Motorcycle Museum, Solihull, on November 27. The AUSA Union was among four finalists nominated for the ‘Students’ Union of the Year.’ The other nominees included students’ unions from Teeside, Sheffield (previous winner) and Bath, with Aberdeen being the only representative from Scotland. This is further testimony to the high levels and wide range of services provided by the Aberdeen Union.
Duncan Stuart, Vice President of AUSA Union Services, said: “To receive such a prestigious accolade has been a most incredible experience for all involved. Credit should be given to all members of staff and volunteers from the Union Management Council. A high percentage of staff are students, so it’s great to see them working hard for the benefit of fellow students.
“Having seen a number of unions in the past, it is definitely safe to say that ‘we are the best.’ We try to utilise all the available space in the Union and cater for everyone’s tastes. Mike McKenzie and Cameron McEwan deserve a special mention as they carried out all of the groundwork. If it had not been for them, we would never have been considered for the award.”
Club Mirror Awards represent varying licensed facilities, ranging from social entertainment to sport and fitness. The awards have been running since 1994 and are in place to "Reward Excellence within the Club Sector". The Club Mirror awards are the only industry awards which encompass all aspects of club life. They acknowledge excellence and hard work of both the individuals who run the clubs and the clubs themselves.
