The University of Aberdeen has appointed The Most Reverend Archbishop Mario Conti as Honorary Professor in Roman Catholic Theology. The Honorary appointment marks and celebrates the Silver Anniversary of the Archbishop's ordination as Bishop of Aberdeen.
Commenting on the appointment, Professor Iain Torrance, Dean of the Faculty of Arts & Divinity at the University of Aberdeen and a Chaplain to the Queen, said: "Our intention had been to offer the Archbishop the Honorary Chair as the University's way of marking and celebrating the Silver Anniversary of his consecration as Bishop of Aberdeen. Clearly, other announcements intervened even as our proposal was taking shape. We are delighted by Mario Conti's elevation to the Archdiocese of Glasgow, but our offer of the Honorary Chair is not related to that, but is in gratitude for the consistent support given to the University during his episcopate here, and as a public token of the University's affection and regard for him."
