The Conoco Natural History Centre at the University of Aberdeen has commenced its summer programme of events for children in the North-east this week with a Snap Happy! workshop supported by Aberdeen City Council and Science Year.
Snap Happy! is a workshop on wildlife photography designed to celebrate Science Year. It aims to show children the behind-the-scenes techniques used by natural history photographers. Local photographer Rachel Thibbotumunuwe will be working with the children to produce images of marine and pond life, using digital cameras and specially designed aquaria.
Miss Mandy Tulloch, Development Co-ordinator at the Conoco Natural History Centre said 'Many children have become interested in science and the environment through watching natural history programmes and there have been some really good ones recently on tv. The film makers and photographers of these programmes use a lot of special techniques to produce the images and we have designed this workshop to show the children some of the behind-the-scenes secrets used to photograph underwater life. It's going to be great fun - we'll be pond dipping, rock pooling and taking lots of pictures!'
The workshop runs until Friday 14 July and all places have now been filled.
Members of the media interested in attending a photo opportunity with local photographer Rachel Thibbotumunuwe and the children at the workshops on Thursday 13 July between 10.00 - 11.00 am OR 12.30 - 2.00pm at The Conoco Natural History Centre, should contact Mandy Tulloch Tel: 01224 493 288
