Oral History Workshop in Aberdeen
Amateur historians are to be invited to delve into the history of their families and communities at a one-day oral history workshop for beginners to be held at the University of Aberdeen on Saturday August 31. The workshop will be run by Hugo Manson, Research Fellow at the University of Aberdeen's School of History and History of Art and an oral historian of over twenty year's experience.
The workshop will be the first in a series to be conduced around the North-east and Shetland regions and will focus on a number of aspects of oral history from using recording equipment to archival standards to understanding memory as well as some of the do's and don'ts of interviewing.
Commenting on the workshop, Hugo Manson said: "This is a good opportunity to have a go at oral history interviewing. There are many people who would like to do some recording in their families or local communities. We'll be teaching some of the essential skills and bringing participants into contact with others wanting to do the same thing. The result of workshops such as this one will be useful skills learnt, links to helpful networks of other oral historians - and an enjoyable day."
Places are still available at the Aberdeen workshop and cost £30 / £20 concession. Anyone wishing to attend should contact Hugo Manson telephone: 01224 272472 email: h.manson@abdn.ac.uk.
