The Department of Land Economy at the University of Aberdeen is delighted to announce the appointment of Kevin Murray as its new Honorary Professor of Planning.
Professor Murray is one the UK's leading practitioners in planning and urban design and in 2000 served as one of the youngest-ever Presidents of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI).
Previously a director of two major multi-disciplinary consultancies and now running his own Glasgow-based consultancy that advises towns and cities across the UK and Ireland, Professor Murray will bring a wealth of national and international professional experience directly into the Department's teaching programmes. He will also work closely with academic staff at the University to develop strong research linkages in urban design, development and regeneration.
As a native Aberdonian who graduated with a BSc in Geography from the University in 1981, Kevin Murray is looking forward to renewing his association with the University and playing a formulative role in the Department of Land Economy's teaching and research programmes. He commented that "I am delighted to be able to bring something of the knowledge I have gained over my years in practice to help nurture the next generation of planning and development professionals. I am sure we are going to have an enjoyable and mutually beneficial relationship."
Dr Philip Allmendinger, Head of Land Economy at the University, said: "Kevin Murray retains a keen interest in the academic education of planners, serving as a member of the RTPI Education Commission and chairing its Working Party on Careers. As an Aberdeen graduate and a widely respected practitioner, he will be an excellent ambassador for the University in the wider professional and business world."
