Coping with the financial burden of full-time undergraduate study is a major concern for all new and existing students. The University of Aberdeen offers approximately 60 Entrance Bursaries and Scholarships, designed to help new students manage their expenses and ease financial pressures.
Around half of the awards are specifically designed to encourage wider access by making funding available to students in financial need who would find it impossible to move into higher education without help. Each award is for £1,000 for every year of study, thus successful applicants stand to benefit from between £3,000 and £5,000, depending on the length of their course. The awards include: 15 Prince of Wales Scholarships, funded by the Royal Bank of Scotland 10 Alumni Annual Fund Bursaries, funded by donations from graduates 30 Open Bursaries based on merit
Clare Gadie, Deputy Director of Marketing commented: "For all our awards, the University is looking for applicants with good academic potential. For the Prince of Wales Scholarships and Alumni Annual Fund Bursaries we look closely at applicants' personal circumstances and seek to help those who would have to deal with financial hardship as undergraduates as well as applicants who have had to overcome personal or family difficulties to get this far."
Entrance bursaries are available to all students in all degree courses. To be considered a candidate needs to have applied to Aberdeen and must have been offered and accepted a place at the University. Awards are made by a panel, chaired by one of the University's Vice-Principals.
