A brand new online careers service was today, Tuesday 11 February, launched at UHI Millennium Institute (UHI) Inverness offices.
The careers service is the outcome of a joint project between the University of Aberdeen, Careers Scotland and UHI. Funded by the Scottish Higher Education Funding Council (SHEFC) the service is designed to provide a framework for careers information, education and guidance aimed at higher education students in the North, North-east and North-west of Scotland.
The joint partnership has named themselves, 'The North of Scotland Graduate Careers Partnership' and the online service which they have launched is www.gradscotnorth.ac.uk.
The North of Scotland Graduate Careers Partnership aims to widen access of their provision to people in rural areas in the North of Scotland. They aim to provide through their website expertise in careers guidance, IT supported learning and careers information. There are six parts to www.gradscotnorth.ac.uk, which are: Careers advice provision & contacts in North of Scotland Employer contacts database Graduate careers information links Practical careers information Graduate destinations Interactive careers guidance modules
Janet Hackel, Registrar, UHI Millennium Institute, said today: "This service will enable students and graduates from all over the North of Scotland to obtain information and help regarding their future career path without having to travel to the bigger towns or cities. I am very pleased with the overall outcome of the service and I know that it will be of a great use to many students in the future."
Locker Madden, Head of Service, Careers & Appointments, University of Aberdeen, who initiated the project, said: "It is very exciting to be involved in this partnership. This is a really new project in an area which has never been covered before and, therefore, will add to the professional guidance of all students and graduates in the North and Northwest of Scotland.
"It has been a pleasure to be involved with the other two partner institutions, UHI Millennium Institute, and Careers Scotland Highlands and Islands."
The online service was officially launched this morning by Simon Varwell, a recent graduate from the University, who is now working for UHI as Student Development Officer.
