'Explore the Deep' is a series of one day workshops that will give participants a fascinating insight to marine science and the opportunity to become involved in some practical demonstrations and model making. Organised in partnership with the Aberdeen Maritime Museum and the School of Engineering at RGU, classes will spend half a day at the University of Aberdeen and half a day at Aberdeen Maritime Museum.
All 250 places on the workshops have now been booked with children from primary schools throughout the north-east attending. Participants will start their day at the Maritime Museum where they will be shown two ROVs (remotely operated vehicles) that have seen actual use in the North Sea. Staff from the RGU School of Engineering will then help the children make working models of these underwater vehicles. It is hoped that nearly 100 ROVs will be made by pupils that will look and operate just like the ones designed and built in Aberdeen for underwater exploration in the North Sea.
Support for these workshops has been received from Thalus Geosolutions, Hydrovision and the Institute of Electrical Engineers.
