The 4th Annual Conference: Contemporary Issues in Home Economics will allow teachers the opportunity of meeting to discuss issues such as national priorities in education, the Health Promoting School Concept and future foods and organics with key academics and industry representatives. The Conference will also help to further strengthen the topics of Food and Textile Technology in the Scottish national curriculum.
Yvonne Dewhurst, Lecturer in Home Economics and Conference Organiser said: "Every year it becomes more challenging to put together a programme that is as good as or better than the previous year. This year's programme maintains the forward looking dynamic of the subject and assists in increasing its profile."
In addition to formal discussions on policy matters, delegates will have the ability to further develop their continuing professional development in the topic and share experience and contacts with colleagues from across Scotland. Other attendees at the Conference include the British Nutrition Foundation, the Health Education Board for Scotland, Trading Standards as well as a range of publishers and food and textile manufacturers.
During the day The Baxters Award for Home Economics will be presented to the Home Economics teacher who has made a significant contribution to the subject whilst the winning school entries in the Scottish Food Challenge 2003 will be presented by Sainsbury's.
