The University of Aberdeen has appointed Jill Moir as Head of Communications. Jill (31) will have responsibility for media relations, corporate communications, political relations, the organisation of large-scale University events and internal communications within the newly created Office of External Affairs.
Lori Manders, Director of External Affairs, said: "Higher Education institutions are operating in an increasingly challenging environment and Jill is joining the team at a time when communications play a vital role in supporting the academic objectives of the University. Her experience in media and public affairs will help drive our ambition to build an even greater Scottish institution in years to come."
Jill added: "Aberdeen is a university internationally renowned for the quality of its teaching and research. I am delighted to have the opportunity to lead the Communications Team and to work with colleagues to further enhance the University's national and international profile."
The portfolio of the Office of External Affairs has recently been widened, and it now has within it three broad areas: Communications, Development and Alumni Relations, and Student Recruitment and Admissions.
Jill will take up her post on August 4 and will report to the Director of External Affairs.
Jill, a graduate of The Robert Gordon University, joined Aberdeen City Council as a Publicity Officer in 1996 and became the Council's first Public Affairs Officer two years ago. She played a key role in the organisation of the historic visit of the Scottish Parliament to Aberdeen in 2002, and has worked on projects such as the Western Peripheral Route, the Intermediary (Energy) Institute, and, most recently, the Building Better Cities project, which saw Aberdeen being awarded £11.5million earlier this month.
Jill was born in Aberdeen and is married, with a four-year-old son.
