New President for University of Aberdeen Development Trust USA

Dr Theodore Malloch is to take the reins of the University of Aberdeen Development Trust USA (UADT USA) at one of the most exciting periods of the University's 500 year history. Dr Malloch will lead the UADT USA in its aims to support the advancement of the ancient Scottish university during its £150 million ($240 million) Sixth Century Campaign.

A graduate of the University of Aberdeen in Scotland (M.Litt. Social Theory and Public Policy, 1975), Dr Malloch is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Roosevelt Group and has more than 20 years experience in the corporate and not-for-profit sectors. As President of the University of Aberdeen Development Trust USA, Dr Malloch will help define its vision and strategy, and lead it into a new period of activity and development.

Established in 1994, the UADT USA is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to charitable and educational purposes. The Trust has long promoted links between the University of Aberdeen and its friends and alumni in America.

Dr Malloch said of his appointment: "I am delighted to take on the role of President of the UADT USA at a time of such important developments and ambitious plans for the University. The University of Aberdeen Development Trust USA is proud of the work it does to promote links between the US and Scotland, and to advance the aims of this distinguished and historic seat of higher learning. I look forward to continuing this work, to strengthening relationships with foundations and donors and to expanding the network of alumni and friends of the University of Aberdeen in America."

Founded in 1495, the University of Aberdeen is one of Scotland's most prestigious and ancient universities.

Its Principal and Vice-Chancellor, Professor C. Duncan Rice, himself an Aberdeen graduate, has spent much of his academic career in the United States, most recently as Vice-Chancellor at New York University where he was heavily involved in the success of its $1 billion fundraising campaign.

The Sixth Century Campaign is the largest fundraising programme ever undertaken by a UK higher education institution outside Oxford and Cambridge and was initiated by Principal Rice in 1999 shortly after returning to his Scottish alma mater. Named to mark the beginning of the University's sixth century, the Sixth Century Campaign aims to raise £150 million ($240 million) for the University of Aberdeen by 2010 to help the institution rise to the challenges of the future and continue to innovate, progress and succeed.

In welcoming Dr Malloch to the post of President of the University of Aberdeen Development Trust USA Principal Rice said: "I am delighted that Theodore Malloch, with all his experience of the North American corporate and not-for-profit sector, will be helping advance the aims of the University through the fundraising activities of the UADT USA. The contribution that philanthropy can make to supporting universities has long been recognised in the US. The University of Aberdeen has been among the first UK universities to recognise that we must embrace philanthropic support in order to compete with the best institutions in the world. The UADT USA's efforts in the US have made a vital contribution to the advancement of the University's aims and I know that Theodore Malloch will enable the Trust to go from strength to strength."
