University of Aberdeen scientist Professor Chris Secombes has been elected President of the prestigious International Society of Developmental and Comparative Immunology (ISDCI). Professor Secombes was elected to this senior position following the Society's recent tri-annual congress in St Andrews.
Professor Secombes specialises in the field of fish immunology and will lead the ISDCI for the next three years in its mission of bringing together international research in the areas of development of the immune system and comparative immunology.
Professor Chris Secombes said of his election: "I am delighted and honoured to be taking up the position of President of ISDCI. The Society has been going from strength to strength since its first Congress in Aberdeen in 1980. I was a PhD student giving one of my first presentations at that conference and was impressed by the enthusiasm of the members and quality of research being undertaken by this newly founded group. I have been hooked ever since. The ISDCI has a tradition of cutting-edge science which I'm sure will attract future generations of comparative immunologists into the Society as we enter the post-genomics era."
Founded in 1976, the International Society of Developmental and Comparative Immunology serves to bring together research workers worldwide by fostering and maintaining international scientific cooperation and communication between individual scientists, regional groups and national societies interested in the study of development of the immune system and comparative immunology. These objectives are advanced through international congresses; sporadic smaller meetings and workshops and a regular electronic Newsletter.
