Aberdeen is to host two major health & safety related conferences next month (November 26th and 27th). Although organised separately, the events share the common theme of major incidents and their impacts.
Humanitarian and Author, Terry Waite will join Eileen Dallaglio (Founder Member of the Marchioness Action Group, The Marchioness Contact Group and Disaster Action) and Dr Mike Shooter (President of the Royal College of Psychiatrists) as keynote speakers at the first event, organised by the Aberdeen Centre for Trauma Research at the University of Aberdeen on Wednesday 26th November.
This one-day conference, The Human Face of Major Incidents, will focus on two themes: the human consequences of major incidents and the need to ensure an integrated response and system of care following major incidents. Taking place at the King's College Conference Centre, University of Aberdeen, the conference will involve senior speakers from Accident and Emergency Medicine and the oil industry. Survivors and those bereaved as a result of major incidents will also be contributing throughout the day. Further information is available from website: http://www.cpd.abdn.ac.uk/incidents/
The Offshore Safety Case Regime will be the focus of the second conference on the following day, Thursday 27th November, organised jointly by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), the International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC) and the UK Offshore Operators' Association (UKOOA). UK Work and Pensions Minister, Des Browne, will give the keynote address, joining Margaret Burns, Health and Safety Commissioner, Timothy Walker, HSE Director General, and senior representatives from the oil and gas industry, the HSE and the workforce in the first major review of the Safety Case Regulations since their introduction 10 years ago.
Fifteen years after the Piper Alpha disaster, The Offshore Safety Case Regime - fit for the next decade? will take stock in this milestone year, by looking at whether the regulations are still providing the most effective and efficient basis for the regime. The one-day conference is being held at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre, Bridge of Don. The Safety Case conference delegates may attend a civic reception on Wednesday 26th November at the Town House, Aberdeen, hosted by the Lord Provost and Council of the City of Aberdeen.
