Major incidents and their impacts on University agenda

Major incidents and their impacts are the theme of a day-long conference taking place today (Wednesday November 26) at the University of Aberdeen.

Over 150 delegates from across the UK will hear keynote speeches from author and humanitarian Terry Waite, as well as Mrs Eileen Dallaglio, Founder Member of the Marchioness Action Group. Chairing the event will be Professor David Alexander, Director of the Aberdeen Centre for Trauma Research.

The conference, The Human Face of Major Incidents, has been organised by the Aberdeen Centre for Trauma Research with the aim of exploring the human consequences of major incidents. Survivors and those bereaved as a result of major incidents will speak alongside senior representatives of Accident and Emergency medicine, the oil industry and University academics and discuss the need to ensure an integrated response and system of care following traumatic events.

Professor David Alexander, conference organiser said: "The University already has a long and respected history of specialist trauma care being one of the first institutions in the UK to set up such a service. I am delighted to have such a broad range of speakers at this our first Conference and hope that it further strengthens our international reputation in this field.
