University Musician of the Year 2004
The University of Aberdeen will next week launch academia's version of Pop Idol in the first ever search for the University's Musician of the Year. The competition will be open to all undergraduate students at the University of Aberdeen and students will be able to choose their own piece of music to perform from modern to classical.
Dr Roger Williams, Director of University Music said: "The University has a wealth of outstanding musical talent. I am delighted to be launching this new competition in recognition of the talent that our students have and am certain the standard of entry will be both competitive and entertaining."
The closing date for entries is February 7 and the first round will be held in March. The winner will play at the University concert Music for a Summer Evening on May 9 and will be awarded £500.
The University of Aberdeen offers a BMus (Honours) Music and has a strong musical history. Famous musical graduates and honorary graduates have included Lisa Milne, Sir Richard Armstrong, Fiona Kennedy and Raimund Herincx.
