Aberdeen is only Scottish University to be awarded
two prestigious scholarships worth £30k
Two prestigious scholarships - worth £30,000 in total - are up for grabs at the University of Aberdeen, thanks to funding from the Medical Research Council (MRC).
The MRC has awarded the Institution two postgraduate studentships for 2004-2005 to the University's Department of Public Health. The funding will support two students through the MSc in Health Services & Public Health Research course (covering their fees and living expenses during this one-year study). This particular MSc offers a significant element of practical research as well as formal classroom sessions.
Only 12 institutions in the UK were awarded these prestigious MRC scholarships. Aberdeen was the only university in Scotland to be awarded two scholarships.
This is the fifth successive year that the University has been awarded these prestigious MRC scholarships.
Dr Edwin van Teijlingen, Senior Lecturer in Public Health and Course Co-ordinator, welcomed the funding: "The University of Aberdeen is delighted at being the only Scottish university to receive two scholarships from the Medical Research Council," he said.
"These studentships offer a significant opportunity and are based on merit. I would encourage students with an interest in public health, health service research and/or health economics, to apply now."
Previous scholarship students have undertaken high quality research in a wide variety of areas ranging from nutrition and disasters in developing countries to unexplained infertility in Scotland.
The closing date for applications is June 2004.
