At 9.00am tomorrow, Saturday, 27 March 2004, the Students' Charities Campaign will begin its now annual Jailbreak event. Eighteen contestants in seven teams will break out of King's College in Old Aberdeen in an attempt to get as far away from Aberdeen as possible in 36 hours, without spending any money on transport.
All the contestants are being sponsored to participate in this event and the money raised will be added to the Students' Charities Campaigns annual disbursement fund. The fund is distributed to charities and groups throughout the North-east of Scotland.
Prizes will be given to the teams, including furthest and shortest distance travelled, and best destination photography. There are talks of teams getting to Capetown, Africa, Belgium and many other places, so the event is bound to be a great success.
Sean McDonald took part in Jailbreak last year and is also willing to give up his time again to take part in the event this year. He said: "Jailbreak was a fun experience and a great way to see parts of the world that you may not normally get to see - and all for free, while at the same time raising money to benefit local groups."
So, keep an eye out for the teams taking part, they will be wearing bright orange t-shirts, and please give any support that you can.
Jailbreak is the first of many events planned to take place over the next five weeks as Charities Fortnight begins on Monday, 19 April. This year events will include fashion shows, quizzes, a Tea dance, schools collections and a slave auction (keep an eye out for more information).
