Potential students hoping to begin at the University of Aberdeen in September 2004 are reminded that the deadline for applications for bursaries is March 31. The University has approximately 60 bursaries, each worth £1,000 for each year of study (up to a maximum of five years) and, unlike Student Loans, the money does not have to be repaid.
Marketing Officer Lisa Rattray commented: "The University of Aberdeen recognises that finance may be an area of concern for people applying to University and these bursaries can help ease the pressure on students, allowing them access to extra funds which do not have to be repaid. Last year there was a one in four chance of receiving an award, so it's certainly worth taking the time to fill out the application form."
The bursaries are split into two categories, Merit and Access. Merit bursaries are awarded to students with exceptional academic excellence, while Access bursaries are awarded to students who have overcome significant financial and personal hardship and might have difficulty meeting the costs of higher education. They include:
· 15 Prince of Wales Scholarships, generously funded by the Royal Bank of Scotland
· 10 Alumni Annual Fund Bursaries, funded by graduates of the University
· 30 Merit Bursaries
Late applications will be considered up to and including 7 April 2004.
