Russian delegation visit University

Academics from a prestigious Russian university will begin a two day visit to the University of Aberdeen today (Thursday 30 April).

The delegation from the Lomonosov Moscow State University will learn more about the institution's internationally leading research and teaching in the area's of Geography and Geosciences. 

It is hoped the visit will lead to new research links being forged between the institutions, who signed a Memorandum of Understanding last year.

Successful teaching practices being deployed by the University will be shared with the Russian delegation, whilst postgraduate study opportunities and the development of a student exchange programme between the institutions, will also be discussed.

Research being undertaken by geographers at the Lomonosov Moscow State University will also be showcased over the course of the visit. 

Professor Sergey Tarkhov will present a seminar entitled Transport geography of Iran at 5pm today in Room 117, St Mary's on King's College Campus.

The seminar is free to attend and open to University staff and students. 

Professor David Macdonald, Head of the School of Geosciences at the University of Aberdeen said: "The University of Aberdeen is committed to developing strong research and teaching links with academic partners across the globe. 

"Today's visit by Lomonosov Moscow State University presents the unique opportunity to share knowledge and information about research in Geography and Geosciences being conducted by the institutions, with the aim of forging new research links. 

"The visit also provides the platform to discuss the possibilities of both academic and student exchange between the universities and the postgraduate study opportunities available to Lomonosov Moscow State University graduates, at the University of Aberdeen."
