Hundreds of prospective postgraduate students are expected to descend on the University of Aberdeen today (Tuesday 11th November) as the institute hosts its second annual Postgraduate Open Day.
Enhanced careers prospects and potential higher earnings
will just be some of the benefits of postgraduate study highlighted at the
event which takes place at Elphinstone Hall at the University's King's College
Campus from 1 – 6pm.
Visitors will be able to learn more about the vast range of postgraduate
opportunities offered by the University which includes over 140 taught
postgraduate courses and a wide selection of research programmes.
Talks on key topics such as postgraduate funding and the
admissions process will take place over the course of the day, and attendees
will also have the chance to participate in campus tours and a question and
answer session with University staff, students and alumni.
Over 3000 students begun postgraduate studies with the
University in October this year – an 18% increase on last year proving the
continued popularity of postgraduate programmes as Rachel Sandison, Head of
Student Recruitment, University
of Aberdeen explains:
"Year on year we are seeing an increase in our intake of postgraduate
students.
"The merits of postgraduate education are evident in both
improving career prospects and boosting future earning potential. This is supported by statistics from the
Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) which indicate that graduates with a
Masters qualification earn around 32% more as a starting salary than graduates
with a first degree alone.
"Whether you are considering undertaking a Continued
Professional Development (CPD) on a part time basis to enhance your current
career, or a Masters which will lead you into your chosen profession, the
Postgraduate Open Day is an opportunity to review the options offered by the University of Aberdeen.
"The event will provide visitors with a detailed insight
into all aspect of postgraduate studies, from the application process through
to finances. Whilst current and former
students and key members of academic staff from across all disciplines will be
on hand to offer crucial advice and guidance."
