Hundreds of prospective postgraduate students are expected to descend on the University of Aberdeen today(Tuesday 11 November) as the institute hosts its second annual Postgraduate Open Day.
Enhanced careers prospects and potential higher earnings will just be some of the benefits of postgraduate study highlighted at the event which takes place at Elphinstone Hall at the University's King's College Campus from 1 – 6pm.
Visitors will be able to learn more about the vast range of postgraduate opportunities offered by the University which includes over 140 taught postgraduate courses and a wide selection of research programmes.
Talks on key topics such as postgraduate funding and the admissions process will take place over the course of the day, and attendees will also have the chance to participate in campus tours and a question and answer session with University staff, students and alumni.
Over 3000 students begun postgraduate studies with the University in October this year – an 18% increase on last year proving the continued popularity of postgraduate programmes as Rachel Sandison, Head of Student Recruitment, University of Aberdeen explains: "Year on year we are seeing an increase in our intake of postgraduate students.
"The merits of postgraduate education are evident in both improving career prospects and boosting future earning potential. This is supported by statistics from the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) which indicate that graduates with a Masters qualification earn around 32% more as a starting salary than graduates with a first degree alone.
"Whether you are considering undertaking a Continued Professional Development (CPD) on a part time basis to enhance your current career, or a Masters which will lead you into your chosen profession, the Postgraduate Open Day is an opportunity to review the options offered by the University of Aberdeen.
"The event will provide visitors with a detailed insight into all aspect of postgraduate studies, from the application process through to finances. Whilst current and former students and key members of academic staff from across all disciplines will be on hand to offer crucial advice and guidance."
