Guidance teachers from across Scotland attend Aberdeen event

Guidance teachers from across Scotland will converge on the University of Aberdeen today (Friday 19 September) to learn more about the latest Higher Education opportunities for students.

The University's annual Guidance teacher information day takes place in the Linklater Rooms, Elphinstone Hall, University of Aberdeen.

Designed to provide teaching staff with an update on current issues relating to university education, the event will highlight crucial information relating to the higher education application and selection process.

Mr Bryan Hunter from the Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS) will also present at the event, providing an insight into the latest key financial issues facing prospective new students across Scotland.

Rachel Sandison, Head of Student Recruitment and Admissions, University of Aberdeen said: "Guidance teachers play a significant role in providing essential advice and support for pupils wishing to take that step onto university education and the annual Guidance teacher information day has been created with this in mind.

"The event aims to provide a clear overview of the various issues facing students considering higher education, from course choices to finances.  Presentations from key academic staff in areas including medicine and computing science will be provided throughout the day, highlighting the various new initiatives which have been introduced by the University to provide students with a positive start to their academic career.

"Current students will also be on hand during the information day providing teaching staff with the chance to quiz them on their own university experience which can then be used as vital feedback for their pupils."
