A new range of evening classes will begin later this month at the University of Aberdeen’s Language Centre.
In the past year, languages such as Arabic, Brazilian Portuguese, Gaelic, Norwegian, Mandarin Chinese and Japanese have all been added to the Centre's impressive portfolio.
Douglas Bell, Director of the Language Centre, said he was eager to build on the successes of the last 12 months.
"All the new languages that we introduced last year have proved popular, especially our Asian language courses such as Mandarin Chinese and Japanese. However, bringing the focus back to Europe, Norwegian and Russian are also very important languages in Aberdeen, particularly in the commercial sector, and this year we will be taking our coverage of Europe even further by offering a complete beginners' courses in Swedish."
"Learning a new language can be enriching in so many different ways. I really hope that University of Aberdeen students, staff and alumni will take advantage of what we have on offer. In addition to courses in modern foreign languages, this year will also see us running a suite of language and skills programmes in Business English. For speakers of English as a foreign or second language, these represent an excellent opportunity to improve future employment prospects"
Each language course lasts for 12 weeks, with classes running for two hours on weekday evenings at five different levels: Beginners, Early Intermediate, Intermediate, Upper Intermediate and Advanced.
The deadline for enrolments is September 9, 2008, with the first classes commencing on September 22 and finishing in early December. Latecomers, however, may be considered.
The normal fee for modern foreign language evening courses is £140 (£160 for courses in Business English). However, University of Aberdeen staff, students and alumni can claim a £10 discount.
