Parents will be given the unique opportunity to learn more about what university life has in store for their child at a bespoke event later this month.
The University of Aberdeen will host the inaugural Parents' Session as part of the institute's annual Open Day on 26 August.
Designed to provide parents of potential new scholars with an insight into the various aspects of university from finances to accommodation, this is the first time a presentation specifically tailored for parents has been incorporated into the Open Day event.
The creation of the Parents' Session follows on from the success of the Parent Evenings which the University host throughout the UK annually.
Rachel Sandison, Head of Student Recruitment and Admissions, University of Aberdeen said: "Selecting which university to attend is a crucial choice for prospective students and parents can play an integral role in the decision making process, providing vital advice and support at what can be a confusing time.
"Equally, entering higher education is not just a significant leap for the scholar involved. For the parent this may be the first time their child will be living away from home, and it is important that they feel fully informed about the facilities, services and range of support mechanisms which are in place to help and enhance their child's time at university.
"The Parents' Session has been introduced to our annual Open Day with all of these factors in mind. From advice on financial issues through to information on the amenities and activities the University offers, the event is designed to provide parents with a valuable insight into all aspects of university life, and help them feel reassured as their child embarks on this exciting new phase of their academic career."
Over 5000 visitors from the UK, Europe and worldwide are expected to attend the popular University Open Day which is aimed at people of all ages looking for information on studying at the University in September 2009. Showcasing the facilities the University offers to prospective students, a host of informative exhibitions, presentations and demonstrations will take place alongside campus tours, and an array of live entertainment.
Visitors will also be offered the opportunity to visit the new four storey accommodation development on the Hillhead Halls Campus. The project, in partnership with Unite will see an additional 520 en suite rooms added to the array of accommodation options available to students matriculating in September this year.
Rachel continues: "The Open Day presents an extremely valuable occasion for parents and prospective new students to experience the University first hand and gain fruitful insights into what the institute has to offer. From the chance to speak to academics on a one to one basis, gain in-depth information on degree courses and learn more about the social and cultural activities and events on offer, the Open Day aims to showcase the full spectrum of student life at the University."
