Aberdeen Sports Village has strengthened its team with the appointment of George Yule as Chairman of the Board of Directors.
In parallel with a life long interest in a number of sports, Mr Yule has pursued a successful business career, culminating in him taking the position of Chief Executive of Dominion Gas in May 2007.
A local man, George is a qualified mechanical engineer who has been actively involved in the UK North Sea oil and gas industry for almost 30 years, comprising seven years offshore, 18 years onshore with Shell UK, and five years in the service sector.
Mr Yule said: "I am honoured and absolutely delighted to take up this position and look forward to working towards the opening of the Sports Village in summer next year. From a sporting perspective it is a project that really excites me, and I am eager to make a positive contribution towards the delivery of state of the art sports facilities for the benefit of the population of Aberdeen and the Grampian region as a whole."
The purpose-built Sports Village will include one of the largest indoor third-generation synthetic pitches in the UK, indoor and outdoor athletics training facilities, a water-based hockey pitch and a large multi-sport games hall, along with a large fitness suite and studio space.
Mr Yule added: "The building is generating a huge amount of interest in Aberdeen and beyond and these unique facilities for the North-east will offer opportunities for everyone with an interest in sport and exercise."
The Board has also been strengthened with the appointment of new Directors from the business community. Joan Ingram from Fifth Business, Nick Dalgarno from Simmons and Company International Limited and Dave Macdermid from the BIG Partnership have all joined the Board, together with Professor Mike Greaves, Head of School of Medicine at the University of Aberdeen.
