Dentists, dental hygienists and other dental health professionals will tonight (May 28) be given an overview of the new University of Aberdeen Dental School.
An open evening for those involved in the profession is being staged at the University's Institute of Medical Sciences.
The event has been organised by the University on behalf of the University of Dundee, NHS Grampian and NHS Education Scotland.
Those attending will be given an insight into the new School which will provide Scotland's first graduate entry dental degree.
They will hear from Professor Mike Greaves, Head of the University of Aberdeen's School of Medicine and Dentistry; Professor Bill Saunders, Dean of the University of Dundee's Dental Hospital and School and Graeme Smith who is Head of Service Development with NHS Grampian.
They will also get the opportunity to meet the first two staff recruits to the School - Professor Jaya Jayasinghe, who joins as Chair in Oral Sciences from the University of London, and new Clinical Teaching Fellow Elizabeth Pryde, who is a practising dentist from Dundee, who has also been teaching at Dundee Dental Hospital.
Professor Greaves said: "The University of Aberdeen Dental School is a tremendously important development for dental education and provision for Aberdeen and the North East of Scotland.
"Our opening evening tonight is an opportunity to inform local dental health professionals about the initiative which we hope will help secure improved dental provision in the North of Scotland.
"Our guests will also hear of how they might be able to help support the School which will see its first intake of dental students in the Autumn."
There have been over 50 applications for the initial intake of 15 places which will rise to 80 as the course rolls out.
Further positions at the School are also about to be advertised in the British Dental Journal.
The opening evening takes place between 6.30pm and 8.30pm.
