Sir David Attenborough’s forthcoming appearance at the University of Aberdeen will now be broadcast live in a second campus venue due to “phenomenal” public interest in his visit.
The Life in Cold Blood star will be interviewed on Monday, June 30 by Dr Alan Marcus as part of the University's Director's Cut season – a new series looking at the art of the filmmaker.
The sold-out event will take place in the 600-seater Arts Lecture Theatre on King's College campus.
But due to high levels of public interest in Sir David's visit to the North-east, organisers have now opted to make a further 300 free seats available via a live feed to a large screen in the adjacent MacRobert Lecture Theatre.
Dr Alan Marcus said: "From the moment we announced that Sir David would be coming to Aberdeen the levels of interest within the University and amongst the wider public has been absolutely phenomenal.
"There can't be many living rooms in the UK, let alone the North-east, that he hasn't appeared in at some point over his distinguished career, and that incredible visibility and popularity has translated into a tremendous clamour for tickets.
"The initial allocation was snapped up weeks ago in just a few hours but with demand still high we thought offering the option of watching a live-feed of the event on campus would appeal to many people still keen to sample the atmosphere on the night."
Sir David will follow his Director's Cut appearance by accepting an honorary degree (Doctor of Science) on Tuesday, July 1 during the evening graduation ceremony at Marischal College.
Dr Marcus added: "Sir David is one of the most trusted and respected voices in the country today – a unique figure in many respects. We're thrilled to have him at the University for what promises to be a very special occasion."
Tickets for the live feed Director's Cut seats at the MacRobert Lecture theatre must be booked via the Director's Cut website http://www.abdn.ac.uk/directorscut/ However, those without internet access can pass their details on to the University Events team by phoning 01224 273 233.
