The new revamped and redesigned University of Aberdeen prospectus is launched today (Tuesday 29 April). Over 65,000 copies of the prospectus, which has been revised to reflect both the traditional aspects of the historical University and the institute’s contemporary outlook, have been distributed throughout the UK and worldwide.
Providing information about the array of courses available to prospective students, the new look prospectus has been created ahead of the annual University Open Day which takes place on August 26.
The redesign of the literature was undertaken following feedback from focus groups in secondary schools throughout the UK. Gaining an insight into what appeals to future students was a key objective for the University, as Rachel Sandison, Head of Student Recruitment and Admissions, University of Aberdeen explains: "The creation of a "new look" prospectus follows UK wide focus group research into the thoughts of secondary school pupils. We felt it was crucial the literature reflected the thoughts, opinions and ideas of the people who will potentially be future students in years to come.
"Embracing a fresh and modern outlook, whilst retaining the sense of history and established traditions which are intrinsic to the University, was our main objective in the redesign of the prospectus. We are confident prospective students thinking of studying at the University will find the new prospectus both informative and appealing."
Thousands of visitors from the UK, Europe and worldwide are expected to attend the popular University Open Day on 26 August. The event is aimed at people of all ages looking for information on studying at the University in September 2009, however late applicants for 2008 entry are also welcome. Showcasing the facilities the University offers to prospective students, a host of informative exhibitions, presentations and demonstrations will take place alongside campus tours, and an array of live entertainment.
Rachel continues: "The Open Day is a unique opportunity for those thinking about studying at the University to come and learn more about the range of courses available. The event provides the chance for prospective students to gain an insight into the academic aspects of student life in the city. Whilst the eclectic range of events and exhibitions showcases the broad spectrum of social and cultural activities which make Aberdeen a vibrant and exciting location. The aim is to give visitors a real sense of what the University has to offer and we would urge anyone thinking of attending to register online, to book their place on the range of activities which will be available throughout the day."
