An Aberdeen shopping hub was transformed into a hip-hop Mecca on Saturday as part of a preview WORD Festival event.
Aberdeen-based hip-hop artist MC, aka the Millennium Child, performed at the Bon-Accord Centre with fellow rapper Mayhem ahead of their appearance at the WORD Schools Festival on May 7.
They were joined by a host of local b-boys and rappers from MC's own Hip Hop School, as well as Inverurie crew Expressions and Street Motion from the Bridge of Don.
MC also performed a brand new single taken from his soon-to-be-released debut album.
Karen Weiniger, WORD Festival Manager, said: "This year's Schools Festival is absolutely packed with a fantastic variety of workshops and readings. On top of MC and Mayhem's appearance, we've got events on Ancient Egypt and hieroglyphics, teddy bear tales and drawing tips with Moira Munro and an appearance from best-selling children's author Steve Augarde.
"Storyteller Sheena Blackhall will also be getting onboard the Reading Bus for a sneak peek of stories, poems and songs from its Doric book of verse, Fit Like, Yer Majesty? and anti-bullying campaigner Julie Hegarty will give us a puppet show from beneath the sea. It should be a magical few days."
MC and Mayhem will host two free rap workshops on Wednesday, May 7 with Mayhem as part of the WORD 08 Schools Festival (May 6-8), sponsored by Talisman Energy (UK) Limited.
Free tickets for the event can be booked from Monday, April 7. To arrange a booking, schools should contact Marjory Clark on 01224 273874 or href="mailto:m.clark@abdn.ac.uk">m.clark@abdn.ac.uk</a>
