The University of Aberdeen’s Expedition Society is holding a two-day conference over the weekend (February 9-10).
'Destinations' is an annual conference which is run by student societies at the Universities of Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow for students all over the UK. The aim of the event is to provide students with the information and advice they need to plan, organise and take part in expeditions on their own or as part of groups, in the UK or abroad.
Day one will feature a variety of talks from lecturers and students from the University who have carried out research and been on expeditions as far afield as Borneo, Ghana and Zambia. There will also be presentations by guest speakers from the Royal Geographical Society, Royal Scottish Geographical Society, Endurance Kayak 66 South and many others.
Day two will offer delegates the opportunity to get a taster of some of the invaluable training in expedition first aid, forest safety and risk assessment offered by the Lifesigns Group and Fieldskills.
The event will take place in the Zoology Building, Tillydrone Avenue, and costs just £10 for the first day, £20 for both days for Expedition Society members. For non-members the event will cost £20 for the first day or £30 for both days.
Society membership is £4 and is available to students of the University of Aberdeen only.
