Highest starting salaries in Scotland for University of Aberdeen graduates

Students stand to improve their career prospects and future earning potential by studying at the University of Aberdeen.

Graduates from the University enjoy the highest average graduate starting salaries in Scotland, as ranked by The Sunday Times University Guide.  The Institution's average graduate starting salary is currently £21,142.

The University continues to be held in the highest esteem by students, academics and the legal profession and this further endorses why students from every corner of the globe are drawn every year to Aberdeen to study.

Peter Fantom, Head of Careers Service at the University is delighted with ranking in The Sunday Times University Guide.  He said: "This is fantastic news to learn that the University of Aberdeen's graduate starting salaries have outperformed other prestigious universities such as Edinburgh and Glasgow.

"This reinforces the recent Universities UK Report which confirms that students can earn a graduate earnings premium of 25% more during their working life than school students who leave after Highers or A levels.  There is anecdotal evidence that students are becoming more strategic in their career planning with numbers targeting company internships at the end of their first year of study.

"This links in with the new University of Aberdeen's Careers Service Placement Development Unit which aims to provide students from the Institution with paid vacation work placements.

"We have received extremely positive feedback from both employers and students who are keen to become involved."

The University is at the forefront of arts and social sciences, in science, computing, engineering, technology, medicine, and medical sciences.

Rachel Sandison, Head of Student Recruitment and Admissions at the University is equally pleased with the recent ranking and said: "The University of Aberdeen is now inviting applications for January (postgraduate) and September 2008 so this particular news is extremely timely.

"At Aberdeen we offer over 550 first degree programmes across three Colleges so there really is something for everyone. This wide variety and flexible student-centred approach offers lots of advantages to students.

"We are very proud of our graduates, who continue to make a huge impact worldwide in a range of arenas.  Our graduates go from Aberdeen to leading positions in business, the professions, public service and academia in the UK and around the world, and will at the same time have the potential to reap the rewards in terms of earning potential."
