Law School returns from Bangalore

Law School returns from Bangalore

School of Law staff have recently returned from delivering a specialist course in India.

And they declared their trip to Bangalore, where they taught a course in International Commercial Law, a significant success.

The three day summer school event, was co-hosted with McGrigors LLP and the Bangalore Management Academy, to qualified Indian lawyers interested in practicing in the EU or global market.

With over 40 delegates from Indian legal practice in attendance and with an opening address by the Chief justice of Karnataka State, the honorable Cyriac Joseph, the event marked the arrival of the Law School in the Indian legal community.

The event also placed Aberdeen in the spotlight as a stepping stone for Indian students interested in undertaking postgraduate study in the Granite City and marked the launch of a new LLM to be taught in Bangalore by Aberdeen staff.

Present in Bangalore for the inaugural conference, which ran from 17th – 19th of August, were Law School members Professor Roddy Paisley, Reader in Law Dr. John Paterson and Senior Lecturers Tom Burns and William Craig.

The event is part of a wider initiative called International Legal Education Scotland (ILES) set up by the School of Law – recently ranked 2nd in the UK in The Good Universities Guide and second equal in the Times Guide – to outreach its excellence in legal education.

Additional courses on Oil and Gas Law and Intellectual Property Law will be added to the programme in the following years and it is hoped that additional members of the Law School staff will add their expertise to expanding this successful venture.
