The recent ‘Varieties of Cultural History’ conference celebrated 21 years of Cultural History at Aberdeen.
The event, which drew academics from across the world, has also now led to the formation of a Cultural History Society – the first of its kind.
Delegates agreed that the new body should be named the International Society for Cultural History. It will have its Founding Conference in Ghent on August 28 to September 1 in 2008.
Moves are also afoot to establish a journal of cultural history and discussions with an interested publisher have already taken place.
"The conference was a great success," said organiser Dr David Smith, Senior Lecturer in the History of Medicine. "There has long been a need for a journal of cultural history and the newly formed society is determined to see that this need is now met."
