Aberdeen South MP Anne Begg and the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, The Right Hon Tessa Jowell MP will be at the University of Aberdeen next week for the first in a series of spring lectures.
The politicians will present a seminar entitled Women at Westminster at the April 3 event which has been organised by the Esslemont Group – a women's network within the University's College of Life Sciences and Medicine.
Esslemont Group member Dr Miep Helfrich is delighted that the politicians are able to give the presentation which is taking place in the Level 7 conference room at the Institute of Medical Sciences at Foresterhill.
She said: "A little while ago we approached Anne Begg to ask if she would be interested in taking part in our spring lecture series as the University's Institute of Medical Sciences already enjoys a good relationship with Anne through the Royal Society's MP Scientist Pairing Scheme.
"Anne was very keen to get involved and we were thrilled when Tessa Jowell also agreed to take part. Tessa is a graduate of the University of Aberdeen so it will be good to welcome her back.
"It really is tremendous to have such high profile speakers launching our Esslemont Group Spring Lecture Series. We believe it is going to be a really popular event."
The Women in Westminster seminar begins at 1pm and tea and coffee will be served from 12.45pm.
Although the Esslemont Group is a networking group for women, the lecture series are open to all and there may also be a few spaces if any of the public want to come along.
